Thanks to the media, I don't feel homesick at all in London where I am and have extended my business trip a couple of days due to the holidays. The TV in a café where we were sitting had the BBC on and the subtitles on the screen were about police attacking, with plastic bullets, the LGBT Pride march at Istanbul's Taksim. 

Istanbul Governor's Office has announced that it will not allow the LGBT Pride March, which was set to take place on June 25 in Istanbul's Taksim Square, citing security concerns and public order.

Istanbul's Beyoğlu Municipality and the Istanbul Chamber of Taxi Drivers (İTEO) introduced electric taxis, to be used in the city for the first time, a joint sahur event (Ramadan pre-fast meal) on June 16 in Taksim Square.

The event was joined by host Beyoğlu Mayor Ahmet Misbah Demircan, İETO head Yahya Uğur, and several taxi drivers, Doğan News Agency reported.

A huge opera house will be built after the demolition of Atatürk Cultural Center in Istanbul's Taksim Square, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on June 13.

A total of 20 new trees were planted in Istanbul's symbolic Taksim Square by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality late on June 1, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Previously, 30 trees were planted by municipality teams as part of a landscape project in Taksim. A total of 50 trees were planted, including 10 plane trees, 18 oak trees, 17 linden trees and five olive trees. 

Hundreds of people, including lawmakers from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), marched down Istanbul's İstiklal Avenue on the evening of May 31 to mark the fourth anniversary of Gezi Park protests, Turkey's largest-ever civil uprising.

Trees will be planted in Istanbul's symbolic Taksim Square after ongoing construction works, Beyoğlu district mayor Ahmet Misbah Demircan said on May 28, daily Habertürk reported.

Demircan said there would be trees in Taksim Square and İstiklal Avenue, while adding that there were infrastructural differences between putting up trees in parks and squares.

The Istanbul Municipality on May 17 shared images of a footbridge connecting the Gezi Park in Taksim and the Democracy Park in Maçka, which is planned to be completed by the end of June.

The ecological footbridge will be home to wild plants and natural meadow species with grass turfed with earth fill, according to the municipality.
