The Rafale vs F-16 dogfight on the first day of Athens Flying Week (photos)
The dogfight between a Rafale fighter jet and a F-16 Viper won the day on what was – after all – a more than impressive first day of this year’s 12th Athens Flying Week at Tanagra Air Base.
The “cherry on the cake” at the end of the day was the upgraded and renewed program of the “Zeus” demonstration aircraft against the backdrop of a magnificent sunset.

The annual airshow Athens Flying Week returns for its 12th consecutive year at Tanagra Air Base, some 60 km from Athens, on September 14-15. Visitors will be able to witness the takeoffs and landings of famous aircraft, enjoy a spectacular airshow, and take pictures with the planes, helicopters, and pilots at the largest static aircraft display in recent years.

Pilot abandons Mirage fighter jet during taxiing
A pilot abandoned a Dassault Mirage 2000-5 fighter jet as it was taxiing at the runway of the 114 Combat Wing in Tanagra on Monday afternoon, the Air Force said in a press release.
The incident was recorded shortly after the jet landed, as part of a training flight.
The Air Force did not mention why the pilot had to abandon the fighter jet.

The first upgraded F-16 Viper of the Hellenic Air Force is returning to Greece following 2.5 years of exhaustive testing at the US Air Force aerospace facility in Fort Worth, Texas.

The first upgraded F-16 Viper of the Hellenic Air Force will land on Wednesday at the aerospace facility in Fort Worth, Texas, currently owned by the US Air Force and operated by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, where, for a few months, it will undergo final tests.

Aviation buffs converge on Tanagra for air show
Flying enthusiasts watch Hellenic Air Force helicopters participate in the Tanagra International Air Show, part of Athens Flying Week, at the Tanagra Air Base on Saturday. The air show, which took place for the eighth year in a row, drew some 60,000 visitors from across Greece and 4,000 from abroad.

Mirage jet crash revives fleet fears
A 28-year-old Hellenic Air Force pilot sustained minor injuries Monday after ejecting from a Mirage 2000 fighter jet south of the Sporades islands group, but the incident brought to the fore the issue of old and malfunctioning aircraft currently in use.
