Petros Panagiotidis: Castor Maritime bought 79.09% of MPC and strengthens its position in containerships
Petros Panagiotidis is strengthening its presence in the container ship sector. More specifically, Nasdaq-listed US-based Castor Maritime Inc, through its Cyprus-based subsidiary, has agreed with MPC Münchmeyer Petersen & Co.
Oil transfer completed after Houthi attack on tanker Sounion
The transfer of approximately 150,000 tons of crude oil from the Greek-flagged Suezmax tanker Sounion to Delta Blue at the Suez anchorage has been successfully completed.
Maritime sources report that the operation was executed with the support of the Greek tugboat Aigaion Pelagos.
Houthis launch four attacks against Greek-owned oil tanker
Greek-owned crude oil tanker Delta Blue has reported four attacks off Yemen's port of Mokha during the last 24 hours, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency said on Friday, and the vessel's manager said the ship and its crew were safe.
Greeks have placed 163 orders for shipbuilding in 2024
Greek shipowners in 2024 in the shipbuilding order sector. In total, they have placed 163 orders with most of them or 88 being for tankers 53.9%.
These include 22 MR2, 19 Suezmax and 17 Aframax/LR2.
They also placed 31 orders for LNG carriers rate 19%. They have placed 27 orders for dry cargo carrier shipbuilding, 16.5% percentage of which 18 are for the Kamsarmax segment.
Orders for new tankers steam ahead
A 32% jump has been registered so far this year in orders worldwide for newbuild tankers, with Greek shipping having the largest share.
Since the start of 2024, 104 tankers have been added to the global order book, compared to 79 in the corresponding period of 2023.

A correspondent on-site in Iran visited the Greek-owned oil tanker St Nikolas, confirming the crew's safety, after the vessel was seized on Thursday by the Iranian navy, as was announced by its managing company, Greek-based Empire Navigations on Monday.

All crew members of the Greek-owned oil tanker St Nikolas, which was seized on Thursday by the Iranian navy, anchored in Bandar Abbas, Iran, are reported to be in good health and safe, as was announced by the vessel's management company Empire Navigation.
Greek shipping company Empire Navigation confirmed their well-being after contacting Iranian authorities.
Egypt to raise Suez Canal transit fees for ships in 2023
Egypt has said that it will increase transit fees for vessels, including oil-laden tankers, passing through Suez Canal, one of the world's most crucial waterways.
The Suez Canal Authority said in a statement on Sept. 17 that it will add 15 percent to the fees for tankers carrying oil and petroleum products, and 10 percent for dry bulk carriers and cruise ships.
