A frenzy has sparked following the announcement that Turkish pop icon Tarkan is coming for a concert in the western province of İzmir's Kordon, an iconic seafront promenade, as part of the 100th anniversary of the Liberation of İzmir on Sept. 9, with houses that have balconies being rented for up to $500 a night.

Turkish Pop Star Released to House Arrest Following Outcry

"Imposing house arrest … does not comply with the law from our point of view," lawyer Emek Emre said in front of a courthouse in Istanbul. Emre added that they will ask the court to revaluate its decision, "and if possible, to abolish it".
Tarkan’s new song takes social media by storm
After a long hiatus since his last album in 2017, Turkish pop star Tarkan has recently released a new song.
Widely called "Megastar" in Turkey, Tarkan's highly anticipated new song, "Geççek" (It's gonna be ok), was released on the night of Feb. 17 on YouTube.

Famous Turkish fashion designer dies of cancer
Bahar Korçan, Turkey's well-known fashion designer who opened the country's first fashion design office in 1993, died on Nov. 11 at the age of 57.
The designer, who made clothes for Turkey's many acclaimed artists, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2016 and had been under treatment since then.

Veteran Yeşilçam actor dies at 83
Yeşilçam's master director and screenwriter, Kartal Tibet, died on July 1 at the age of 83.
Actress Civan Canova announced the death of Tibet on his Instagram account, saying, "Goodbye, my brother Kartal. I will miss you so much."

Graves found in basilica-planned ancient city
