Illegal hotel sprouts up near former royal estate
A hotel that has sprung up near the former royal estate of Tatoi in northern Athens is on course for demolition.
The 2,000-square-meter hotel has been illegally built by a businessman who was granted a permit to carry out repairs on a 120-square-meter building that was damaged in a major wildfire in the summer of 2021.

Restoration study for former royal palace garden unveiled
The ministries of Environment and Culture presented restoration studies on Tuesday for the 3.4-hectare palace garden and cemetery, as well as the progress of the redevelopment of the entire former royal estate of Tatoi, north of Athens.
Otto regalia found at Tatoi
Culture Ministry researchers documenting the movable assets at the former royal palace at Tatoi in northern Athens have discovered the regalia of Greece's Bavarian King Otto, the ministry said on Monday.
The crown and scepter were made by legendary French jewelers Fossin et Fils and the sword by Manceaux and Fossin et Fils.

The former royal palace at Tatoi will be open to the public by 2025, Culture Minister Lina Mendoni has said, a day after former king Constantine II was buried alongside his ancestors at the former royal estate.
"Citizens will have access to the old palaces by 2025," she said, in an interview with private broadcaster Real FM radio.
