Tax authorities planning carrot-and-stick strategy
The Ministry of Finance and the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) plan greater discounts and the unlocking of bank accounts for those taxpayers who pay their taxes or their past debts on time or earlier.
The changes will affect income declarations filed next year.

Land Registry: The Tax Office’s Vigilant Monitoring of the Properties of 7 Million Taxpayers
Starting in September, the “big eye” of the tax office will delve into the real estate of over 7 million taxpayers. The “Property Ownership and Management Register” is a new database that will be connected to the Land Registry.
Foreign bank cards can now be used to pay taxes
Taxpayers can now use foreign-issued bank cards to pay their taxes online, the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has announced.
The AADE said that Visa and Mastercard cards issued by foreign banks can also be used to pay the ENFIA property tax, administrative fees, boat taxes, among others.

Taxman becomes electronic
Taxpayers will now only communicate with the tax office digitally and via electronic messages, while audits will be completed within a maximum of one year, according to the new tax bill amending the Tax Procedures Code established in 2013.

Changes in the real estate market in 2024
A series of changes are expected in the way property owners are taxed from the beginning of 2024, with most of them focusing on facilitating citizens. Interventions that will change the map in the short-term rental market are also imminent.

Scenario for freeze on ‘tekmiria’
The Finance Ministry is set to review the use of taxpayers' asset data to establish the real level of their incomes - known as "tekmiria" - at least for the 2020 financial year. The reason for this is to avoid thousands of taxpayers having to pay taxes on nonexistent revenues as the financial crisis resulted in last year's incomes dropping - steeply in many cases.

E-transaction requirement may go down
The annual minimum amount in online transactions required of taxpayers may be reduced to below the existing 30% threshold, given the market conditions. This is a decision the government will make in 2021, before the submission of income tax declarations.

Big prizes for lucky taxpayers
The tax lottery is evolving into a lucrative game of chance for taxpayers, as its overhaul means lucky winners could collect up to 100,000 euros, compared to just 1,000 euros today.
Sources say that the Finance Ministry is examining more than 10 scenarios aiming at collecting revenues in excess of 500 million euros this year from the online transactions measure.
