The mayor of the southernmost Greek island of Gavdos said Thursday that it has put an end to a business venture by a woman from Hania on Crete who had set up seven tents on beaches and rented them out to tourists via online platforms.

Turks pitch tents for budget-friendly vacations
Turks are increasingly passing up skyrocketing hotel prices in favor of budget-friendly camping vacations. The sale of camping equipment such as tents has accordingly almost doubled. Some stores have expanded their camping sections to accommodate the growing demand.

Samos plans strike, Lesvos a rally over migrant camps
Businesses and organizations in Samos will be going on strike on Thursday in demand that the migrant and refugee center on the eastern Aegean island be shut down and its 3,685 residents moved to more suitable facilities.
Concerns regarding the living conditions at the camp have grown in recent months, as the 650-spot facility is hosting more than five times its capacity.

Government considers boosting capacity of refugee centers
The Migration Policy Ministry is reportedly considering increasing the capacity of existing refugee and migrant centers on the mainland as a first step in managing a recent spike in arrivals from neighboring Turkey, in a plan ministry sources say the European Union agrees with.
Rescuers Saw a Tent in Camp 3 under Shishapangma
Several suspicious sites and a tent were spotted by the rescue teams in the Camp 3 area below the Shishapangma peak in the Himalayas, along the way Bulgarian climber Boyan Petrov disappeared. This was said for bTV by Yogesh Sapkota, marketing director of Simrik Air, who coordinates the air and land rescue from Nepal.

200 Refugees Blocked a Highway in Greece
Yesterday about 200 refugees and migrants blocked the highway near Thessaloniki in northern Greece. They protested against the poor conditions in their camp, the Associated Press reported.
The protest last night continued an hour and ended after more police was sent there to handle the situation. The protest began after the tents in the camp had been flooded.
