In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, theatrical productions worldwide have seen a reduction in the length of plays, a trend still prevalent in Türkiye, where pervasive social media use and shortened attention spans have also taken their toll.

Could it be the curse of the Scottish play? Daniel Craig's return to Broadway in a new version of "Macbeth" has been temporarily halted after the actor contracted COVID-19.

Broadway theatergoers will need to prove they've been vaccinated for COVID-19 and masks will be required when theaters reopen in the coming weeks, producers announced on July 30.

The shutdown on Broadway has been extended again — until at least early September.

Although an exact date for performances to resume has yet to be determined, Broadway producers are now offering refunds and exchanges for tickets purchased for shows through Sept. 6.

New York's celebrated Broadway theaters have been shuttered since March 12 and may well not reopen before September. The very real fear is that with no public funding to help them weather the crisis, some shows may never reopen.
