Building licenses suspended in Santorini’s caldera zone
A clause that imposes suspension on building in the wider zone of the caldera on the islands of Santorini and Therasia was included in draft legislation put out for public consultation by the Environment Ministry on Thursday.
The suspension covers swimming pools and building extensions as well as brand-new construction.
Cleaning Santorini’s seabed
The recent mission by the Aegean Rebreath organization to clear the seabed off the island of Santorini collected 800 kilos of abandoned fishing nets, 406 potentially recyclable materials, 28 car tires and 30 items of clothing.

Controlled access measures in Santorini to mitigate landslide risks
Controlled access measures for residents and visitors have been implemented in parts of the Cycladic islands Santorini and Therasia to mitigate landslide risks.
A landslide struck the little volcanic island Therasia in April highlighting the need to implement safety measures. While no injuries were reported, several stores suffered significant damage.

Landslide strikes Therasia island, no injuries reported
A landslide struck the tiny island of Therasia (sometimes spelled Thirasia), situated near Santorini in the Greek Cyclades, on Saturday, according to reports. No injuries were reported, although several stores suffered considerable damage.
Santorini Interconnection – Hellenic Cables contractor of the cable section
The Independent Power Transmission Operator announced the successful completion of the tender for the cable section of the Santorini-Naxos electrical interconnection. The temporary contractor for the project with an initial budget of 100 million euros was Hellenic Cables, which bid at a price of 79.5 million euros.
Progress of island excavations to be presented in Athens
Athens University and the General Secretariat for Aegean and Island Policy will be presenting the most recent finds from five excavations that are taking place at important archaeological sites on the islands of the Cyclades and Ionian.
