Martin Schulz Withdrew from the Leadership of the German Social Democrats

Social Democratic Party leader Martin Schulz announced his resignation, DPA reported. Shortly after, the party's leadership announced that it supported the chairman of the SPD parliamentary group Andrea Nahles for the post. Her candidacy will be voted on by party members on April 22.

Germany's Social Democrats target Merkel in Turkey airbase row

Germany's Social Democrats raised pressure on conservative Chancellor Angela Merkel on May 21, saying if she could not resolve a row with Turkey over access to the İncirlik air base, German troops should move.

Merkel's defense minister, tacitly admitting the possibility said she had been looking for other locations and hinted that Jordan could be one.

German lawmakers slam Turkey for alleged spying on colleague

German lawmakers have voiced anger at claims that Turkey is spying on a fellow member of parliament.

The caucus leader of the Social Democratic Party, Thomas Oppermann, said it was "absolutely unacceptable" that lawmaker Michelle Müntefering "appeared on a list" that the Turkish National Intelligence Agency (MİT) handed to the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND). 

Merkel warns of war if Germany closes its borders

German chancellor Angela Merkel speaking to supporters of her conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) in Darmstadt on Monday she defended the deal on transit zone and said that if Germany closed its border it could result in military conflicts adding that Social Democrats (SPD) need to support the transit zones.
