Travel warning

Turkey said on Friday that Western nations, including the United States and Germany, had not given it any information to back up their assertions that security threats had prompted them to close their missions in the country.

The U.S. State Department updated travel warnings for dozens of countries worldwide on June 8, including Turkey. 

In all, the department changed its travel advisories for 114 countries, according to a State Department statement. The majority of the revisions - 58 - were countries being upgraded from Level 4 Do Not Travel to Level 3 Reconsider Travel, including Turkey.

Speaking to German weekly Der Spiegel, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu commented on Germany's decision to lift travel warning for EU countries while extending it for all other countries until Aug. 31.

Germany and Turkey are in talks to evaluate if Ankara could be granted an exemption from Berlin's travel warning issued for all countries outside the EU, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on June 11.

Germany's "travel warning" for non-EU countries should not be interpreted as a "travel ban" for citizens who want to travel to Turkey or other countries, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on June 10. 

Germany is in talks with Ankara over measures that could make it possible for German tourists to travel to Turkey for summer holidays, a senior government official said on June 4. 

Turkish Foreign Ministry has issued a travel advisory for citizens traveling to France warning them against ongoing violent protests in Paris and across the country.

Germany's Foreign Ministry has warned its citizens thinking of traveling to Turkey that they risk arbitrary detention even in Turkish resort areas, Voice of America reports. The hardening of the travel advisory follows detentions of Germans by Turkish authorities that are considered by Berlin to have been politically motivated.

Fourteen countries have issued security warnings on Monday 12, October to their citizens following the deadly bombing attacks occurred last weekend at Ankara, Turkey concerning the increased risk of terrorism in the country.
