The Istanbul Governor's Office has initiated a reforestation campaign with the aim of restoring forested areas damaged by wildfires in the city this year.

Farmers in northern Greece are desperately seeking help abroad to get their fruit and other crops picked, as local youth disdain farm work and the once-reliable Albanian farmhands now prefer to chase jobs in northern European Union countries.

Huge swathes of tropical rainforest were burned or hacked down for cattle and crops last year, led by destruction in Brazil, researchers said Thursday, warning that climate change itself is making it harder to reverse the losses.

Kočevje – More than 10,000 trees will be planted at six locations around Slovenia on Saturday as part of an annual campaign to replenish forests hit by natural disasters. The campaign is being organised by SiDG, the state forests company, and its partners after a two-year break.

The National Forest Fund registered an increase of approximately 0.2% in 2020, compared to the previous year, while the volume of harvested wood increased by 4%, according to data published on National Institute of Statistics (INS). As of December 31, 2020, the forest fund area was 6,604,206 hectares (+11,976 hectares as compared to 2019), of which the forest area totaled 6,449,417 hectares.

Ljubljana – The cold snap that hit Slovenia this week caused damage to all types of fruit orchards nation-wide, as well causing injury to vineyards, olive groves and legumes, initial estimates by the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry (KGZS) show. In some areas all fruit crop is gone.

As more than 200,000 hectares of forestland turned to ash in the last 10 years in Turkey, most of the areas damaged were brought back to life as a result of the comprehensive works of the authorities.
