Bulgarian MPs Approve Amnesty of Religious Denominations' Debts

MPs on 8th of March voted to approve an amnesty of overdue liabilities incurred by religious denominations. The debt is to be written off through amendments to the Religious Faiths Act, which were approved at first reading by votes from GERB and MRF. United Patriots were against, reports BNT. 

Bulgarian Parliament Rejected the Presidential Veto on Changes to the Electoral Code

Bulgarian MPs as expected rejected the veto of President Rumen Radev on the controversial changes in the Electoral Code. The law will be sent to the President for promulgation in the State Gazette within seven days, National Assembly President Tsveta Karayancheva announced.

GERB has Announced that it will Restore the Preferential Vote

Three days after the final adoption of the elected law amendments they have opted for, the government refused to change the rules for preferential voting and its intention to keep the current Central Electoral Commission (CEC) to hold MEPs' election despite its expiring term, reports Dnevnik.

Russia's Ambassador Makarov: We have not Received Instructions for Meddling in the Bulgarian Elections

Russia's Ambassador to Bulgaria Anatoly Makarov rejected the allegations of an expected Russian intervention in the elections in Bulgaria. Makarov commented on Monday the statement of GERB Deputy Chair Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who expressed his conviction that there would be such an interference. Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev also made a warning, reports Mediapool.

500 Bulgarian Schools will be Modernised with BGN 700 Million

BGN 700 million has been allocated for the modernization of 500 Bulgarian schools during this school year, the Chair of GERB parliamentary group and the vice-president of the party Tsvetan Tsvetanov said o 11th of February in Veliko turnovo, where he opened the civil dialogue "Europe in Our Home", reports BNT.
