Salvagers launch new attempt to tow oil tanker blown up by Houthi rebels

A new attempt has begun to try to salvage an oil tanker burning in the Red Sea after attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels, a European Union naval mission said Saturday.

The EU's Operation Aspides published images dated Saturday of its vessels escorting ships heading to the Greek-flagged oil tanker Sounion.

Turkey’s Bosphorus traffic suspended after towing issue, agent says

Traffic was suspended in Turkey's Bosphorus on Wednesday after a tugboat had an operation failure during towing of a ship at the northern entrance of the strait that runs through Istanbul, shipping agent Tribeca said.

Ship traffic in Turkey's Bosphorus Strait was suspended on Wednesday morning after a ship suffered an engine failure, the Tribeca shipping agency said.

According to a report shared by the agency, Liberia-flagged crude oil tanker Guanyin had an engine failure at the strait's northern entrance and two tugs were dispatched for assistance. [Reuters]

Greek authorities say tugboat carried 6 tons of cannabis

Greek authorities say they have seized more than six tons of processed cannabis from a tugboat in the Mediterranean Sea and arrested the vessel's six Syrian crew members.

A Merchant Marine Ministry statement said the Andreas was intercepted about 50 miles south of the island of Crete and boarded by special harbor police forces on Tuesday.
