The Istanbul Tulip returned home to Turkey after two centuries, Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has said.

"Today, after more than 200 years, we brought the Istanbul Tulip home!," Consul General Bart van Bolhuis said in a series of Tweets and shared pictures of the yellow-reddish flower with acuminate leaves.

Domestic and international tourists will not be able to witness the beauty of the tulip gardens, which hosts the splash of all colors and is visited by thousands of people every year in the Central Anatolian province of Karaman's Kazımkarabekir district, due to the strict measures to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

Inverted tulips that grow in the mountainous regions of Anatolia in the spring have started to blossom on Mount Sakız on the border of the southeastern and eastern provinces of Diyarbakır and Elazığ.

With the arrival of spring, the orange, red and yellows tulips are out in all their glory and have added color to the ever-increasing vivid landscape.

The world's largest "carpet" of live tulips was "rolled out" in Sultanahmet Square on Thursday, April 25, with an induction by new Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

Around 30,000 Turkish tulip flowers of different shapes and colors are on display at a tulip festival in the city of Morges, Switzerland.

Originating in the Pamir Mountains of the Turkic homeland in Central Asia before spreading to Anatolia and worldwide, tulips continue to be a defining theme for spring events in Turkey. 

The 13th Istanbul Tulip Festival opened on April 3 at the Emirgan Park with the participation of Istanbul Governor Vasip Şahin. As part of the festival, the Istanbul Municipality has decorated many parts of the city with tulips. The festival will continue with various events throughout April.
