Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest

Turkish authorities have ordered the exhumation of the grave of a convicted murderer, who committed suicide in prison while serving his sentence for a femicide nearly 15 years ago, following persistent public skepticism over his death, the victim's lawyer has announced.

Turkish pop singer Sertab Erener, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 with her song "Everyway That I Can," took the Eurovision stage once again after a 21-year hiatus in the second semi-final of the event on May 9.

Turkish authorities have made the first arrest in connection with the deadly car crash involving renowned writer Eylem Tok's son, who fled the country shortly after the incident.

Turkish pop singer Sertab Erener will take the Eurovision stage after a 21-year hiatus. The singer, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 with her song "Everyway That I Can," which was Türkiye's first and only victory in the event, has been invited to this year's contest in Malmö, Sweden, on May 7 and 11.

The funeral program of Türkiye's prominent musician Özkan Uğur, a member of one of the best-known Turkish pop music bands, MFÖ, who lost his life on July 8 after a decade-long fight with cancer, has been announced.

Bülent Özveren, a prominent Turkish TV presenter, mostly known for presenting Eurovision music contests with the national broadcaster TRT between 1975 and 2012, has lost his life at the age of 79.

The news of his death was announced by his wife, Sebla Özveren, in a tweet late on Oct. 17, saying, "Unfortunately, we lost him."

A prospect of Turkey participating in the Eurovision Song Contest next year has stirred excitement among Turkish fans after a senior official of the state-run broadcaster TRT announced that the country could return to the competition.

A senior government official has denied reports that Turkey will end its protest against the Eurovision song contest and return to the competition in 2018. 

"There is no such a thing at this moment," Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdağ told journalists in Ankara on Aug 7.

It may be far from Europe, but Australia has been granted entry into the Eurovision song contest, sparking joy from fans and bemusement from those questioning the antipodean entry.
