The Turkish media describes a woman of Greek descent that has caused a huge headache to Turkey. Articles speak of a female spy that has managed to shake up high-ranking officials, even going as far as to undermine Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Chief of Turkish General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar said the Turkish army makes great effort in preventing civilian casualties during the fight against terrorism, speaking at a reception for Republic Day on Oct. 29. 

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov held a meeting with a senior Turkish diplomat on Oct. 18 in Istanbul, Turkish diplomatic sources said.

A delegation from the Russian air force informed the Turkish military about air space violations that took place on Oct. 3 and 4 at a meeting in Ankara on Oct. 15, Turkey's armed forces said in a statement.

Syrian fighter jets and missile systems harassed Turkish F-16 warplanes near the Turkish-Syrian border on Oct. 10, the Turkish military said on Oct. 11, once again bringing the conflict to NATO's southeastern flank. 

Syria-based missile systems harassed Turkey's warplanes on Oct. 7 while eight F-16 jets were on a patrol flight along the Syria border, the Turkish military said on Oct. 7. 

Former Chief of General Staff Gen. ?lker Ba?bu? presented his defense at a second hearing before the Supreme Court of Appeals in the Ergenekon coup plot case on Oct. 7.

Former Chief of General Staff said a plot was laid against the Turkish Armed Forces.

Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar has said Turkey is the only NATO member country that is neighboring three crisis areas, namely Syria, Iraq and Ukraine, speaking at NATO's Military Committee conference in Istanbul late on Sept. 12.

"These crises are in Syria, Iraq and Ukraine. These threats affect not only the region but also global security.

I know this is an absurd question. The name of our state in all official documents here and abroad is the ?Republic of Turkey.? Well then, why such a question; why such a title? 

Let me explain. 

While he was delivering his Aug. 30 Victory Day message, our new Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar said some interesting things which drew my attention. 

Turkey's top national security body will hold its next meeting on Sept. 2 when an interim "election government" is expected to be in charge of the country, which has been shaken by conflict between the security forces and outlawed militants.
