Turkey entered a new reality as of yesterday with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan putting aside the principle of impartiality and joining the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) under the terms of the recently amended constitution. With the current plans, on May 21 he will also become the chairman of the ruling party.

MHP denies it will join next government
Turkey's Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), which cooperated with the ruling party in amending the constitution in last month's referendum, has denied speculation that it will appoint ministers during a cabinet reshuffle expected to take place before the end of May.

Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ has commented on President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's possible return to the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), saying that "this longing has to end."
Before being elected as president in 2014, Erdoğan was the leader of the AKP.
Gov't to seek consensus with opposition on adjustment laws
Turkey's government will seek consensus with the opposition in drafting laws to introduce the newly approved constitutional amendments but will proceed on its own in the event that other parties do not contribute to the process, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has said.
