Last surviving leader of Turkey's 1980 coup dies: reports

Turkish former air force general Tahsin ?ahinkaya, the last surviving leader of the  1980 coup which led to military rule and left lasting scars on the country, died on Thursday. He was 90.

The putsch on September 12, 1980 was the bloodiest in Turkey's coup-ridden history, overthrowing a civilian government and putting in place a military junta that ruled Turkey for three years.

The mother of Turkey's "tutelage" tradition

It was the mother of republican Turkey?s many bad habits. It was 55 years ago this week when some officers staged a coup against the elected, ever-strong Democrat Party (DP) government of the country, overthrowing an obsessively majoritarian mentality, but at the same time setting precedence for a ?tradition of military interventions? and laying down the foundations of a military tutelage.

The day before he came into our lives

Sept. 12, 1980, coup leader Kenan Evren died last week on May 9, 2015. So much was written after his death that I thought there was probably nothing else left uncovered about him and the era he symbolizes.
The only thing I can write about is my personal evolution, being from the generation that experienced that era.
