Some time ago, during his previous term in office, the prime minister had called a meeting of ministers, state officials and university rectors to discuss the issue of security at public universities. The scheme for a campus police force was very much "alive" at the time; it was, in fact, one of ruling New Democracy's key policy announcements.

Ticket dodgers trapped after metro barriers activated
There was panic on Tuesday at the Ambelokipi metro station after fare-dodging commuters were trapped due to the activation of ticket barriers.
Anthoupoli and Aegaleo metro stations closed to public
Anthoupoli station on Line 2 of the Athens metro and Aegaleo station on Line 3 are to remain closed on Saturday and Sunday to allow for the installation of ticket barriers.
Anthoupoli station will remain closed on Monday too.

Two more stations of the Athens metro will remain closed this weekend as part of ongoing work to install turnstiles throughout the system.
The stations that will be closed to the public on Saturday and Sunday are Ilioupoli (Line 2) and Agia Paraskevi (Line 3). Trains will pass through them without stops.
Vandals damage turnstiles in Neo Faliro
Unknown vandals have damaged the newly-installed ticket turnstiles at ISAP electric railway station in Neo Faliro, south of Athens.
The attack, which comes in the wake of various similar incidents across the capital, took place around 1.10 a.m. on Wednesday.

The stations of Panepistimio and Aghios Ioannis on Line 2, and Aghia Marina on Line 3, will be closed on Saturday and Sunday.
Trains will pass through the the affected stations without stopping.
