The rare green sea turtle species has been found to have bred on Chrissi Island, according to a post by the Natural History Museum, as researchers discovered the nest.

The discovery of a Caretta caretta nest on May 10 in Lagana Bay, on the island of Zakynthos, has confirmed predictions that climate change has brought the turtles' nesting season forward, the sea turtle protection society Archelon has said.

As sea turtle spawning season has commenced along the beaches of Alanya district in the southern province of Antalya, the urgency to safeguard these delicate creatures at the brink of extinction has come to the fore.

Endangered loggerhead sea turtles, known as Caretta caretta, have laid their first nest of the season on İztuzu Beach, a popular nesting ground in Muğla's Ortaca district.

These turtles migrate to the Aegean coast for five months each year, using the beach for nesting, incubation and mating.

As measures are being taken for the new nesting season on the southern province of Antalya's Çıralı coast, one of the protected areas where sea turtles come and nest every year, more than 5,300 hatchlings are expected to reach the sea this year.

The Sea Turtle Research, Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (DEKAMER) in Dalyan in the western province of MUĞLA has lost signal from Caretta Caretta named Tuba, on which a satellite tracking device was installed before releasing it into the sea on Aug. 28, 2019.

Tuba, whose number of followers exceeds 9 million, is expected to return to Dalyan this summer and make a nest.
