Earlier today, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited Tychero in the Evros region as part of his visit to the area to present the development plan for the region, accompanied by a large government delegation.

Police authorities have arrested three people for illegally transporting immigrants in areas of Evros.

The influx was significantly greater than in previous days when border guards stopped between 200 and 250 asylum seekers daily. 

A border guard serving in the region of Evros in northeastern Greece has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, local media reported on Tuesday.

Evros-news.gr said that the unnamed guard, a Soufli local who was serving at the town's border post, was rushed to the General University Hospital of Alexandroupoli on Monday after colleagues became concerned for his health.

Greek authorities have reported two new incidents in less than 24 hours of shots being fired in the air by Turkish guards on the Evros River border with Greece, in the northeast.

Two new incidents of shots being fired by Turkish border guards was reported at the Greece's border in the Evros region late on Thursday.

In the first incident, two boats of the Turkish border police sailing in Evros river at 10.20 p.m. with two passengers each, fired shots in the air and a flair that landed on the Greek side of the border.
