Local elections are being held on Sunday in most of the country except the separatist regions in the east, with Ukrainians electing members of local councils, chairmen of rural councils and city and town mayors.

KIEV -- Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that he is not against a referendum "that could give much more powers" to Donetsk and Lugansk, AP reported.
Poroshenko's statement on Monday "reversed his government's previous position," the agency said.

Ukraine Votes for Parliament amid Ongoing Donbass Tensions
Ukraine is holding on Sunday early elections for a new Parliament called by President Petro Poroshenko.
About 33 million Ukrainians are eligible to vote in 32 000 polling stations across the country.
A total of 29 political entities are running for seats in the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's Parliament.
