When two deminers were killed on August 25  nearby the town of Livno in south-west Bosnia while they were on duty in one of the minefields that still blight the country, it again highlighted the dangers faced by those who are working to clear the remaining unexploded ordnance left over from the 1992-95 war.

THE PLANNED DISPOSAL of an unexploded World War II bomb today will force a mass evacuation around Berlin's central railway station and likely spark transport chaos in the German capital.

Trains, trams, buses and even some flights at the city's Tegel airport will be halted when a police bomb squad starts defusing the British 500-kilogramme bomb unearthed on a building site.

An operation to defuse an unexploded British bomb from World War Two in Germany's Augsburg, where 54,000 people were forced out of their homes, was ended in success after 11 hours of work. 

An unexploded bomb caused a mass evacuation at Victoria station on Friday morning.

As local media report, armed police rushed at the scene and ordered thousands of passengers to evacuate the station.

The station was reopened just before 10.15am.

Montenegro's Centre for Underwater Demining on Monday said explosive devices were still being thrown into the sea, posing a general danger to swimmers, divers and many others.

The appeal came de-miners found a number of unexploded bombs off shore in the bay near the resort towns of Kotor and Tivat on Monday.

Some 20,000 residents in the western German city of Cologne are being forced to evacuate their homes after authorities discovered a 200-kilogram bomb from World War II. 

Schools and kindergartens remained closed and dozens of ambulances were on the scene to evacuate residents of a nursing home.

The lives of more than five million Syrians, including two million children, are at risk from explosive weapons used in the conflict, a non-governmental organisation said on May 12.
