I’m going slightly mad

Being one of the few Turkish economy pessimists sometimes makes me question my knowledge of economics. Luckily, the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s annual report on Turkey arrived just in time to confirm my economic sanity- as I found many of the recurrent themes from my columns in the report.

PM Ponta: I exclude ending agreement with IMF, but a 0.9-pct deficit is unacceptable

Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Friday said that negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are under way and that he does not believe the ongoing agreement will be ended, although he finds unacceptable a deficit that is 0.9-percent of the Gross Domestic Product that the IMF demands.

IMF mission comes to Bucharest for talks with Romanian authorities on 2015 budget bill

A joint mission of International Monetary Fund (IMF) and European Commission (EC) experts will be in Bucharest over December 2 - 10 to discuss with the Romanian authorities the 2015 Budget Bill.

The mission will be headed by chief negotiator for Romania Andrea Schaechter on behalf of the IMF, and by Istvan Szekely on behalf of the EC.

ILO calls for urgent action in Greece to create jobs, tackle social problems

The International Labor Organization (ILO) called on Monday for a change in policy in Greece to boost employment and prevent a social crisis.

In its “Productive Jobs for Greece” study, which was presented in Athens on Monday, the ILO emphasized the problems of long-term unemployment in Greece and that a growing number of Greeks are finding themselves at risk of poverty.
