Romania's Chief of Defence Staff, US Marine Corps commandant discuss Black Sea security

Romania's Chief of the Defence Staff (SMA), General Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca on Thursday met Commandant of the United States Marine Corps David H. Berger, according to a press statement released by SMA on Friday. According to SMA, the meeting, which took place at the Washington Command, also x-rayed the security context in the Black Sea region.

Five Missing after Two US Military Planes Crash off Japan

Rescue operations were underway Thursday for five US marines missing after two American military aircraft crashed during a refuelling operation off the coast of Japan, the Japanese defence minister said, reports AFP. 

One crew member has already been rescued and is thought to be in a stable condition, Takeshi Iwaya told reporters.

The Australian government said on Aug. 6 that it would deploy its armed forces to assist in recovery efforts after the U.S. Marine Corps suspended a search for three Marines missing since their aircraft crashed off Australia's northeast coast a day earlier.

US Heavy Weapons Bound for Bulgaria

Heavy US equipment that arrived in Germany on Sunday is bound for Bulgaria, a specialized website has said.

The Abrams main battle tanks, three howitzer artillery cannons and six light armored reconnaissance vehicles were first transported to Bremerhaven, Germany, and are accompanied by 160 Marines, according to the Marine Times.

Bulgaria to Host 155-Strong US Marine Corps

A US Marine Crops unit will be deployed to Bulgaria this autumn, AP wrote late Thursday.

The unit of 155 Marines will be stationed here for eighteen months.

It will be equipped with four Abrams main battle tanks, six light armored vehicles and three howitzers, Brig Gen Norman Cooling is quoted by the Marine Corps Times as saying.
