Local tourists flock Aegean coasts as curfews end
With Turkey lifting nationwide curfews and lockdowns as of July 1, local tourists have been flocking to some of the well-known tourism hubs in the Aegean region, giving a sigh of relief to the badly hit tourism industry that closed down for one and a half years during the pandemic.

Turkey rescues more than 100 asylum seekers on faulty boat
Turkey rescued at least 109 asylum seekers aboard a faulty boat set to sail from a bay in Turkey's Aegean Izmir province.
Local gendarmerie teams learned that migrant smugglers were preparing to take asylum seekers to Italy by boat attached to a fishing port in the Karaburun district of Izmir.
Tornado, Hail Size of Egg Hit Turkey
A small tornado struck a town on Turkey's Aegean coast, leaving a path of destruction and injuring 16 people, officials and reports said Friday.
The tornado touched down late on Thursday in the resort town of Cesme, some 90 kilometers (56 miles) west of the city of Izmir. It uprooted trees, blew off roof tiles, swept up cars and knocked down a crane. At least four boats capsized.

Turkey’s tribute to Greek poet George Seferis
Hasan Gürsoy opened the George Seferis Art Gallery in Urla, near Smyrna in Turkey, in honor of the Greek Nobel laureate. As a young boy, Seferis lived in the region until the age of 14 years, so when Gürsoy and his partners decided to open their gallery they decided to recognize the great Greek poet and thus pay tribute to the shared Greek-Turkish cultural past.

Seed bartering festival in ?zmir aims to revive local planting richness
A seed bartering festival will take place in the Urla district of Turkey?s ?zmir province in October, aimed at protecting and reviving endangered seeds and enriching the natural wealth of the region.
The festival will be held on Oct. 4 in the Malgaca market square, giving attendees the chance to exchange local seeds.
