Police arrest Italian wanted for international oil smuggling

Police in southern Attica have arrested an Italian national against whom an international arrest warrant was pending for his involvement smuggling petroleum products internationally.

According to the Interpol red notice and information from foreign authorities, the man is a leading member of a transnational criminal organization based in a Latin American country.

Two Bulgarian Officers Arrested for Bribery at Gyueshevo Border Crossing

In a recent operation organized by The Directorate-General for Border Police, a significant development unfolded late on March 23 at the Gyueshevo border crossing. Two border policemen, aged 38 and 49, found themselves in custody following their apprehension by the Internal Security Directorate and Special Tactical Actions sector of the RDGP-Kyustendil.

Police bust counterfeit travel document gang

Following a months-long investigation that also involved the cooperation of Europol, police have busted a criminal gang and seized some 4,650 counterfeit travel documents that were intended to facilitate illegal migration.

Eleven people were arrested as part of the investigation, with police believing that they facilitated at least 50 cases of human smuggling and illegal migration.

Major Migrant Trafficking Operation Dismantled in Bulgaria

In a significant crackdown on organized crime, Bulgarian Border Police have detained ten individuals involved in migrant trafficking during a targeted operation in the Burgas area. Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov, Director of the General Directorate Border Police, disclosed the details of the operation to bTV on Wednesday, revealing that more arrests may follow.

Driver busts through toll booth barriers during migrant smuggling pursuit

A 20-year-old foreign national was arrested in Thessaloniki in the early hours of Sunday for migrant smuggling. 

During routine police checks on the Thessaloniki National Road, a vehicle, driven by the accused, sped excessively in an attempt to evade inspection breaking toll barriers at three toll booths.

Migrants hidden in truck stopped in Igoumenitsa

Greek authorities have apprehended two undocumented migrants from Iraq, aged 23 and 26, in the northwestern port of Igoumenitsa as they attempted to travel to Italy concealed within a freight truck. 

Additionally, a 52-year-old suspected smuggler, also from Iraq, has been detained in connection with the same incident.
