A powerful explosion shook a block of flats in the coastal city of Varna in the early hours on January 13, BNT reports.

According to preliminary information, a woman had been killed in the blast. A second victim was found inside the building. Five people were hospitalized. It is not yet clear what the cause of the expolsion is.

Most of the voters in Varna preferred their new mayor to be Ivan Portnih. 60.8% of the inhabitants of Bulgaria's maritime capital voted for it. The other candidate for the run-off, Kostadin Kostadinov, gained 35.1% of Varna citizens' votes, according to a Gallup poll commissioned by Nova TV.

It is not clear whether Varna elected mayor in the first round or not when the first forecast results were announced . For now, however, it is more likely that there will be no second round in the maritime capital, but this will become clear later.

The Minister of Environment and Water Neno Dimov, the acting Mayor of Varna Municipality Peycho Peychev and the Executive Director of City Transport EAD - Varna Zlati Zlatev signed a contract for the modernization of urban transport in the municipality. The project is funded under Operational Program "Environment 2014-2020" (OPE). The total investment is BGN 85.4 million.

Woman killed in gas station explosion in Dobrich. Another woman was injured. The incident happened around 8 pm last night at the exit of Varna. According to preliminary data, a gas cylinder of a car exploded during charging. The blasted car is almost completely destroyed. There were two women in it - a mother and a daughter, bTV reports.

A fire near the railroad blocked the Sofia-Varna express train. The fire broke out in the area between Covenant and Karnobat. Dry grasses and shrubs are burning, NOVA reported.

The final result of the competition for 8-grade pupils of Sofia's Math High School and the Math High School of Varna is 3 silvers and one bronze, reports BNT. 

The silver winners are Atanas Dimitrov, Dejan Hadji-Manich and Blago Gunev. The bronze winner is Velislav Garkov.
