The ongoing gridlock at the Sofia Municipal Council persists, with no successful election of a chairperson after two rounds of voting in its fifth try on Monday.

Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev has highlighted the urgent need to elect a chairman for the Sofia Municipal Council by December 12, cautioning that failing to do so would result in significant financial losses. He stressed the necessity for a resolution to be reached by Monday to avoid operational disruptions in the municipality.

The coalition of "We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria" (WCC-DB) and "Spasi Sofia" decided not to propose a candidate for the chairmanship of the Metropolitan Municipal Council in today's session. Boris Bonev, their initial nominee who was unsuccessful twice, confirmed the coalition's collective choice to abstain from the contest.

"The situation is very difficult after the heavy snowfall in the capital. There are many fallen trees and broken branches, which hinders the snow removal machines, there are many broken cables, problems with the power supply, all the teams are working," Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev said at a briefing.

According to him, the main road arteries are well-cleaned and passable.
