Venus de Milo

Authorities on Milos have invited American pop star Beyonce to visit the Aegean island as part of its campaign to repatriate the world famous Venus de Milo statue which is housed in the Louvre museum in Paris.

The Municipality of Milos came up with the idea after Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z made a music video in the Louvre in which the statue features prominently.

A little over two years ago, the mayor of the island of Milos, Gerasimos Damoulakis, visited the Louvre Museum in Paris to see the Venus de Milo - the Aphrodite of Milos - up close. But upon entering, rather than asking for a ticket, he said: "I am the mayor of Milos.

Less than a year after it was removed for restoration, the Winged Victory of Samothrace is back on its pedestal in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
