Victory over Japan Day

On May 9th, a survey conducted on our media's Facebook page sparked significant interest and engagement, shedding light on how people commemorate this historically significant day. The survey asked participants, "What do you celebrate today?" referring to the dual observances of Europe Day and Victory Day.

Russia has started celebrating Victory Day - the anniversary of victory over fascism in WW2 - with a military parade in Moscow.

The message from Red Square this morning is that "there was, there is, and there will be no force that could ever enslave the Russians."

Japan marked the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II (and its unconditional surrender) on Saturday, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe avoiding a controversial visit to the Yasukuni shrine, which honors several war criminals along with the multitudes of other fallen Japanese.

According to AP, Abe instead prayed and laid flowers at a national cemetery for unnamed fallen soldiers.
