Van Gogh painting stolen from Dutch museum during virus shutdown

Thieves stole a painting by Dutch master Vincent van Gogh early Monday in a daring heist from a museum that was closed to the public because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The 1884 painting, titled the "Parsonage Garden at Neunen in Spring", was taken during a pre-dawn break-in at the Singer Laren Museum near Amsterdam.

The revolver with which Vincent Van Gogh is believed to have shot himself is to go under the hammer, a Paris auction house said Tuesday, reported News18. 

Discovered by a farmer in 1965 in the same field where the troubled Dutch painter is thought to have fatally wounded himself 75 years before, the gun has already been exhibited at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

Yorgos Lanthimos's "The Favourite," an absurdist period comedy about two cousins courting the favor of Queen Anne in 18th century England, has won the jury prize - essentially the silver medal - at the 75th Venice Film Festival.

Olivia Colman won best actress for her role as the queen.
