Sunny skies expected across Greece for New Year’s Day
Sunny skies are expected on Wednesday, New Year's Day, across Greece, with the only exception being a few clouds over Crete, where visibility will be locally limited in the morning and evening hours, with fog expected to form.
Air pollution’s deadly toll
Air pollution continues to claim thousands of lives annually in Europe, with Greece seeing 10,700 premature deaths linked to airborne particulate matter, according to the European Environment Agency's annual report.
More specifically, the report highlights that 239,000 Europeans died in 2022 due to suspended particulate matter (PM 2.5), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and ozone exposure.

Exceptional' Sahara dust cloud hits Europe, says monitor
An "exceptional" dust cloud from the Sahara is choking parts of Europe, the continent's climate monitor said yesterday, causing poor air quality and coating windows and cars in grime.
Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service said the latest plume, the third of its kind in recent weeks, was bringing hazy conditions to southern Europe and would sweep northward as far as Scandinavia.
Saharan dust concentration highest in the south
The highest concentrations of African dust were recorded in southern Greece on Thursday, according to the National Observatory of Athens.
The concentrations of PM10 particles exceeded 180 μg/m³ at noon and then gradually started decreasing.
