Retailers in Bulgaria are gearing up for the introduction of the euro, with double price labeling in BGN and EUR expected in stores starting March, NOVA NEWS reports.

Retail chains in Bulgaria are actively preparing for the transition from the Bulgarian leva to the euro. Nikolay Valkanov, the executive director of the Association for Modern Trade, stated on Nova TV that ongoing discussions with relevant departments are focused on coordinating activities associated with the euro's introduction.

The Ministry of Digital Governance’s action to subsidize households and businesses, through a voucher, in order to connect to the Internet at speeds of at least 250 Mbps will be implemented in the coming days.

The subsidy for broadband connections through the new Gigabit Voucher platform, which gives out €200 discount vouchers, has been launched.

A total of 40,234 social tourism vouchers for 2024-2025 issued by the Public Employment Service (DYPA) were activated in tourist accommodations across the country in August, the second month of the program.

According to the announcement, vacations can be taken until June 30, 2025.

Starting July 1, food vouchers in Bulgaria will be exclusively electronic, marking the end of the transition period where both paper and electronic vouchers were accepted. Tanya Obushtarova, the general secretary of the Association of Food Voucher Operators in Bulgaria, said on the national radio that traders will still accept paper vouchers until their printed expiration date.

More than 5,000 applications for vouchers to cover the cost of cash register-integrated POS terminals were received on Monday, according to an announcement released on Tuesday by the National Economy and Finance Ministry and the Digital Governance Ministry.

Bulgaria has embarked on a digitization journey by replacing traditional paper food vouchers with a plastic card, akin to a bank card, initiating this transformative move at the start of the year. This transition will involve a grace period until July, allowing issuance of both paper and electronic vouchers.
