Greek troops fire tear gas at migrants gathering again at Turkish border
Greek riot police and troops fired tear gas early on Wednesday at hundreds of migrants as they made another attempt to cross the border from Turkey into Greece.
The air was thick with smoke on both the Greek and Turkish sides of the Kastanies border crossing, and fire engines were also at hand to put out smoldering blazes on the ground.

Greek police fired tear gas to repel hundreds of stone-throwing migrants who once more tried to force their way across the border from Turkey on Wednesday morning.
Clashes at the border crossing by the northeastern Greek town of Kastanies have been ongoing since Ankara's announcement late last week that it would no longer stop Syrian refugees trying to reach European soil.

Greece conducts military exercises near Evros
Greece would on Monday conduct military exercises using real ammunition near the Evros land border with Turkey.
The exercises, set to take place at border outposts at Kipoi and Kastanies, were announced Sunday by the Fourth Army Corps, which is charged with defending the Greek-Turkish borders in Thrace and the Aegean Sea.

Greek forces turn back attempts at border crossing
Migrants amassed at the Greek-Turkish border made about 9,600 attempts to enter Greece overnight, Deputy Defense Minister Alkiviadis Stefanis said Sunday.
All attempts were successfully thwarted, Stefanis said before leaving for the border area.
At the border crossing of Kastanies, there are at least 3,000 migrants waiting to cross into Greece, authorities estimate.
