The aqueducts in the ancient city of Aspendos, located in the southern province of Antalya's Serik district, have witnessed centuries of history. 

The one-kilometer-long and 15-meter-high aqueducts, which bring water to Aspendos from the mountains, reveal the talent of the engineers who built them. These rare and ancient artifacts are called the lifelines of the city. 

Without reforms, the world will be plunged into a water crisis that could be crippling for hot, dry countries, the United Nations warned March 20.

In an annual report, the U.N. said abuse of water was now so great that on current trends, the world will face a 40-percent "global water deficit" by 2030 -- the gap between demand for water and replenishment of it.

A new desalination plant opened on Hydra on Monday giving the island access to drinking water at almost a third of the previous price, is set to prompt the government to make it easier for such units to be constructed.

The plant on Hydra is able to process 1,600 cubic meters of water a day. It was built by Greek firm TEMAK, which won a tender to build and run the unit for 12 years.

The water levels in Istanbul’s dams are lowest of the past decades with threatening the city with a water cuts in the summer. A top Greek court has blocked the planned privatization of the country’s biggest water utility, the Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company (EYDAP), the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA) has reported, on the grounds the sale could put public health at risk.

The popular island destination of Myconos faces a serious drought risk this summer unless immediate measures are taken to avert water shortages, Skai understands.

The water levels at the island's main reservoir are exceptionally low and sources indicate that a new desalination plant is needed.
