Mediterranean boat carrying 500 migrants has disappeared, rescuers say

A boat carrying about 500 migrants, including a newborn baby and pregnant women, has disappeared in the central Mediterranean, two charities said on Friday.

Alarm Phone, a group that picks up calls from migrant vessels in distress, said it lost contact with the boat on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, two off-duty US soldiers stationed in central Slovakia caused an incident in a grocery store last weekend, which needless to say is being exploited by pro-Russian elements in the country. Though nobody was hurt and the two soldiers did not damage anything, they were loud and under the influence of alcohol.

Kiev repels Russia air strikes: Ukraine officials

Russian forces launched overnight air attacks on Kiev, military officials in the Ukrainian capital said Friday, adding that all the missiles were intercepted and destroyed.

"Another air attack on Kiev, 13th in a row since the beginning of May! And, as always, at nighttime," the city's military administration said on its Telegram account.

Turkey's Foreign Ministry has accused "certain politicians in Greece" of "distorting historical data" for making references to the Pontian Genocide.

In a statement, it said the claims of a genocide are based on "baseless claims … from some radical groups against Turkish history [that] fuel hostility towards Turkey."
