Xenophobia

All countries should work together in the fight against xenophobia and Islamophobia, Turkish deputy foreign minister said on Feb. 26, referring to a recent racist terror attack in Germany. 

Faruk Kaymakçı spoke during the high-level section of the 43rd session of the Human Rights Council at the European headquarters of the U.N. in Geneva.

The dramatic episode of the Holocaust remains a lesson of national and universal history that should never be forgotten, in the current international context, marked by the rise in intolerance, xenophobia and anti-Semitism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) states.

The Foreign Ministry strongly condemned a law that prohibits Muslim women from wearing the headscarf in France while accompanying their children during school trips.
In a statement released on Oct. 31, the ministry warned French officials that the ban could ignite discrimination against Muslims.

Turkey, Pakistan, and Malaysia have agreed to jointly fight the rising global trend of Islamophobia, mainly in the West.       

Xenophobic violence is a common phenomenon in predominantly poor, black areas of post-apartheid South Africa, where jobs are scarce and locals blame entrepreneurial foreign communities - their numbers swelled via the country's porous and corrupt borders - for the prevalence of drugs, crime and unemployment.

Despite a rising tide of racism and xenophobia across the globe, Turkey remains an exception with its democratic reforms and respect-based policies towards non-Muslim minorities in the country, particularly since the early 2000s.

President Klaus Iohannis on Friday sent a message on the occasion of the commemoration of the Roma genocide day, stressing the necessity of permanent awareness of the importance of fighting racism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism, specifying that this day is a good opportunity for the authorities to re-assert commitment for an inclusive society.

The U.S. House of Representatives formally condemned Donald Trump on July 16 for xenophobic attacks on four minority Democratic lawmakers and hostile language targeting immigrants, as the president denied accusations of racism.    

Islamophobia offers no solution for the problems of either Europe or Asia, the continents straddled by Turkey, said the Turkish presidential spokesperson on June 15.
