A recent attack on a Muslim cemetery in Greece shows the rise of Islamophobia and racism both there and throughout the continent, according to an expert on the region.

A group of scholars and lawyers have drawn attention to rising Islamophobic tendencies in the Netherlands.

"[The OIC] calls on the U.N. and other international and regional organizations to adopt March 15, the day this horrendous act of terrorism was perpetrated, as the International Day of Solidarity against Islamophobia," read a joint communiqué released following the emergency meeting of the OIC in Istanbul on March 22.

Turkey warned the West on March 20 about ignoring Islamophobia, saying doing so could fuel further deadly attacks.       

Numerous parents of pupils at a primary school on the eastern Aegean island of Samos kept their children away from classes on Monday in protest at the admission of children from the island's refugee camps.

According to reports, 106 out of 150 pupils at the Ano Vatheos school did not attend.

Political and Islamic leaders expressed their disgust at the deadly shooting at two mosques in New Zealand on March 15, with some citing rising "Islamophobia" as responsible.
