Two Turks arrested in Rhodes for human trafficking, luxury yacht seized

Authorities on the island of Rhodes arrested two Turkish nationals for human trafficking and seized a yacht and a car. 

Following a tip-off, a Turkish-flagged catamaran was found at the new yacht marina, where a 30-year-old man disembarked five migrants and loaded them into a rented car. 

A 41-year-old Turkish captain and five more migrants were found on the yacht. 

Fire destroys two yachts and tourist vessel at Zea Marina

A late-night fire at Zea Marina in Piraeus on Thursday resulted in the destruction of three vessels.

The blaze reportedly engulfed the newly launched 32.96-meter Golden Yachts motor yacht O'Riana and the 42.49-meter Picchiotti motor yacht Libra Y, both of which sank. Additionally, a commercial tourist vessel was also consumed by the fire.

Kazakh businessman denies responsibility for Hydra wildfire 

A prominent Kazakh businessman rejected allegations on Monday that he or any of the passengers onboard a luxury yacht were responsible for a wildfire that broke out on the Saronic island of Hydra by fireworks launched from the ship on June 21.

The blaze burnt through 300 acres of the only pine forest on the tourist island, which lies south of Athens.

The captain and mate of the yacht, who were arrested by a team of the Fire Service along with 11 other crew members as the culprits of the fire in a forest area in the Bisti area of Hydra Island in the evening hours of Friday, June 21, 2024, were sentenced to early morning detention, with the agreement of the investigator and the prosecutor.

Ministry launches project to open 100 new public beaches

The Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Ministry has announced a new project aimed at opening 100 new beaches for public use, funded by revenue generated from the installation of mooring buoys for yachts.

The initiative, part of the ministry's "The Seas are for the People" project, seeks to remove barriers that prevent citizens from accessing the sea.
