Celebrate Bulgaria's National Liberation Day with a Journey on the Historic Holiday Train!

A special holiday train will travel from Septemvri Station to Yakoruda and from Yakoruda to Septemvri Station to commemorate Bulgaria's National Liberation Day on March 3rd. This tradition of celebrating the holiday with a train journey along the narrow-gauge railway has become well-established.

Bulgaria: Big Fire in Krstava Village

Massive fire burnt down multiple houses in the village of Krstava, Velingrad municipality, Southern Bulgaria, on August 14. No one has been injured. The material damages are huge.

6 houses and several agricultural buildings burned down in the fire. For hours, firefighters, volunteers, forestry workers and residents from the village were fighting to put out the blaze.

Light Earthquake Registered near Yakoruda, Southwestern Bulgaria

An earthquake was recorded this morning near Yakoruda, southwestern Bulgaria, reported the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography (NIGYG) of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS).

The quake was recorded at 5:23 a.m. this morning. According to initial data, it had a magnitude of 2.8 on the Richter scale and a depth of 12 km.

 

Train Traffic Suspended in Blagoevgrad Area due to Rockslide and Train Accident

 Since 6.12 am, train traffic between the stations of Yakoruda and Belitsa has been suspended after earth-rock mass fell on the railway tracks and then a passenger train, Septemvri-Dobrinishte, hit into it, the National Railway Infrastructure Company said. After the crash the locomotive was derailed with the first carriage.

In the early morning of St. George's Day, people from all over the country will take a journey back in time to get in touch with the beauty of nature and the purity of the human soul.

And while the train is moving along the narrow-gauge line from Septemvri to Dobrinishte, people will be preparing for celebration on the meadows near the town of Yakoruda, quoted by BNR.

Four Die after Drinking Fake Alcohol in Southern Bulgaria

Four young men have died and other two are in critical conditions after drinking counterfeit alcohol during celebrations, media outlets report.

Police and doctors confirm alcohol poisoning was the most likely cause of the incident which took place in a neighborhood of Yakoruda, a town in the Rhodope Mountains.
