Turkish security forces have freed a police officer abducted by militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party's (PKK) youth wing in the country's southeast in late 2015.

The Turkish military operations backed by curfews in the country's southeast have begun to resemble "collective punishment," Amnesty International said on Jan. 20, also accusing the international community of poor criticism against Turkey. 

VICE News journalist and fixer Mohammed Rasool, who was arrested in southeastern Turkey 131 days ago, was finally released from jail on Jan. 5.

Lawyer Muhammed Ne?et Girasun had demanded Rasool's release, citing a lack of evidence for alleged links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the longevity of his arrest.

The International Publishers Association on Dec. 22 condemned what it called "blatant political censorship" in Turkey, saying three journalists' books had been pulled from shelves on court orders.

A police officer has been abducted by militants from the outlawed Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H) in the southeastern Turkish province of ??rnak. 

Ayhan Kaya, an officer from the security-protection department, was abducted by militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party's (PKK) youth-wing at around 5 p.m. on Dec. 10 in ??rnak's Cizre district. 

One police officer was killed and another wounded in clashes between police and the outlawed Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H) in the southeastern province of Mardin on Dec. 8. 

Three police officers and a child have been wounded in clashes between the youth wing of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and security forces working to open roads closed by the militant group in Turkey's southeastern province of Mardin.

A total of 22 people were detained in Nov. 4 in operations targeting the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party's (PKK) youth and urban wings in Istanbul and Adana, respectively. 

Two men were killed on Nov. 3 during clashes between security forces and locals in the Yüksekova district of the southeastern province of Hakkari.

The international news organization VICE blacked out all of its digital and social channels for two hours on Oct. 21 in a move to show support for one of its journalists who has been under detention in Turkey for two months.
