Houthis miss Greek-operated ship in Red Sea attack

Yemen's Houthis targeted a Greek-operated, Liberia-flagged bulker but all three strikes against it missed, a maritime security source told Reuters on Tuesday.

The attack took place on Monday and was the first against a commercial vessel in weeks following an escalation in Israel's campaigns in Gaza and Lebanon this month.

Salvagers abandoned an effort to tow away a burning Greek-flagged oil tanker in the Red Sea targeted by Yemen's Houthi rebels as it "was not safe to proceed," a European Union naval mission has said.

The announcement by the EU's Operation Aspides leaves the Sounion stranded in the Red Sea, threatening to spill its 1 million barrels of oil.

Greece and Saudi Arabia lead effort to tow Greek tanker attacked in Red Sea, Bloomberg reports

Greece, in cooperation with Saudi Arabia, is leading the effort to evacuate and tow the Greek-owned oil tanker Sounion, which was attacked last week in the Red Sea by the Houthis, Bloomberg reported on Thursday.

The plan involves transferring the oil inside the tanker (approximately 150,000 tons) to another vessel, while Sounion will be towed to a safe port, likely in Djibouti.
