Academic year ends for over 17 million students
More than 17 million Turkish students have begun a three-month vacation, as the academic year for pre-college level educational institutions ended on June 12.
A total of 17,559,989 students have received their report cards for the end of the academic year. The upcoming academic year for elementary, middle and high schools will begin on Sept. 14.

Charity funding to help students vie in Olympiads
The Onassis Foundation has offered to step in and provide the money needed for Greek students to take part in academic competitions after the government said it would no longer be able to provide the 50,000 euros needed for the trips to take place.

Greek mothers among the oldest in the EU!
In 2013, a majority (51.2%) of women in the European Union (EU) gave birth to their first child when aged in their 20s, while 40.6% became mothers in their 30s. In addition, more than 127,000 births of first children in the EU in 2013 were to women aged less than 20 (teenage mothers) and around 65,500 to women aged 40 and over.

Guidance classes in Turkish schools to introduce professions from a gender-based perspective
The curriculum of the guidance and career planning classes in secondary schools has been renewed in a gender discriminative manner, daily Cumhuriyet has reported.
The revised program for the guidance and career planning classes states that students should be told of social gender roles and guided to make their choices accordingly.

In the 2013-14 academic year, we had almost 3 million high school students and just over 2.5 million vocational and technical high school students. Every year, almost 800,000 students graduate from high schools and vocational/technical high schools. In the coming years, this figure will exceed 1 million.
