Kudret Özersay is a former Turkish Cypriot negotiator. He held the title of chief negotiator until last October when he was removed from duty after he announced he would run as a candidate in April?s presidential elections. Özersay, who had been involved in the negotiations since 2003, was replaced by Özdil Nami after Mustafa Ak?nc? won in the April elections.
Why the choice for negotiator in Cyprus was a right one
Some people are unhappy with the "negotiator" pick of new Turkish Cypriot President Mustafa Ak?nc?. The president is a social democrat and from the Communal Democracy Party (TDP), while the negotiator is a socialist and from the Republican Turks' Party (CTP), leading some to say that the new president has established a coalition at the presidency from day one.
Turkish Cypriot leader names new negotiator
Foreign Minister Özdil Nami is to represent Turkish Cypriots in negotiations with the Greek Cypriot side, the newly-elected President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Mustafa Ak?nc?, has said in a statement.
"An important window of opportunity to resolve the Cyprus issue" is available, according to the May 1 statement of Ak?nc?.
