Ancient trireme open to public

The Olympias, a reconstruction of a 5th century BC Athenian trireme, anchored at the Zea Marina in Piraeus port Thursday for the fifth straight year as part of the Sea Days 2019 initiative to raise public awareness on the marine environment.
The ship, belonging to the Hellenic Navy, was welcomed Thursday by Piraeus Mayor Yiannis Moralis.

Motorist plunges into sea after losing control

A 59-year-old motorist was killed on Monday morning after he lost control of the car he was driving, which plunged into the sea off Zea Marina in Piraeus, damaging a boat in the process.

Marina employees removed the car from the sea. 

The 59-year-old was transferred to the nearby Tzaneio Hospital after being removed from the wreck of his car, but doctors failed to revive him.

Trireme Olympias on show at Zea marina in Piraeus

On-duty crew members stand on the deck of the Olympias, a reproduction of an ancient Athenian trireme, after it anchored at the Zea marina in Piraeus on Wednesday. The Olympias was constructed in 1985 and was mainly used for experimental archaeology trips until 2004, when it was used to transfer the Olympic Flame from Keratsini to Piraeus for the Athens Games.
