New discoveries including gold ornaments and fine pottery at an ancient port city in Cyprus dating back more than 3,000 years indicate that the settlement was one of the Mediterranean's most important trading posts in the late Bronze Age, an archeologist said on July 11.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has spoken over the phone with his Israeli counterpart, Isaac Herzog, and discussed Israel's security forces' raid on Al-Aqsa Mosque, their attack on the Qibla Masjid and their harsh attitude towards people at sacred places, said the Presidential Communications Directorate on April 8.

Violence resumed for a second straight night in Jerusalem on Wednesday when Palestinian worshippers barricaded themselves inside Al-Aqsa Mosque at the Old City's sensitive compound and Israeli police used force to remove dozens of worshippers.

Türkiye on Wednesday denounced attacks inside Al-Aqsa mosque, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan saying Israel had crossed a "red line".

"Türkiye cannot stay silent in the face of these attacks. Trampling on the Al-Aqsa mosque is our red line," Erdoğan said during a dinner for those breaking daytime fasting, a practice for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Türkiye condemned on April 5 that Israeli forces stormed into the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem's Old City and called on Israel's government to immediately cease "provocations."

Israel's national security minister's "provocative action" against Al-Aqsa Mosque is "unacceptable," Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu told his Israeli counterpart in a telephone call, the Foreign Ministry said on Jan. 4.

Muslims around the world began marking a sombre Eid al-Fitr on May 24, many under coronavirus lockdown, but lax restrictions offer respite to worshippers in some countries despite fears of skyrocketing infections.

Later this year the site in Hungary which includes the tomb of a revered Ottoman sultan will be turned into an open-air museum, according to a Turkish official.

Turkish Foreign Ministry on Aug. 15 rejected the remarks made by Gilad Erdan, Israel's public security minister, to change the historical status quo of the Al-Aqsa mosque.      

Israeli forces attacked Palestinian worshipers in Jerusalem's flashpoint Al-Aqsa mosque complex on Aug. 11, injuring at least 37, according to a Palestinian official.
