A man grabbed a knife from a supermarket shelf on Oct. 27 and stabbed five people, killing one and wounding four others, including Spanish soccer player Pablo Mari, Italian authorities said.

Police arrested a 46-year-old Italian man suspected in the attack at a shopping center in Assago, a suburb of Milan, carabinieri said.

The Competition Commission on Thursday issued its conditional approval of the Sklavenitis supermarket group's takeover of the outlets of its bankrupt rival Marinopoulos, demanding the sale of 22 stores belonging to the two chains (19 of them in Attica), and the increased protection of suppliers with a high dependence on the two major retailers.

In the first half of 2017, Greek supermarket chain Sklavenitis will begin partial renovation works at all stores it receives from acquired rival Marinopoulos that are to remain in operation.
