A Viking sword thought to be over 1,000 years old has been unearthed during excavations works in the ancient city of Patara in the southern province of Antalya's Kaş district.

Archaeological excavations in Myra, one of the six most important cities of the Lycian Union, and its port Andriake in the southern province of Antalya have unearthed a 1,800-year-old signet ring without a band. 

Three sandy Mediterranean beaches, including the ancient Patara Beach in Antalya’s south and castle land will be zoned for construction as their protected statuses have changed, the Official Gazette reported on Jan. 9.

Archaeological excavations in the ancient city of Patara in the southern province of Antalya's Kaş district have unearthed 2,350 year-old tools used in daily life. Among them are a mirror frame and an iron fork.

Initiated in 1988, the excavations in Patara have been carried out by Akdeniz University Head of Archaeology Department Professor Havva Işık and her team.

Turkey's two world famous tourism spots, the southern province of Antalya and the western province of Muğla, are like haven for holiday goers with their beaches and coves. 

It might not be the middle of the desert, but Patara Beach on Turkey's Mediterranean coast is drawing great interest from tourists for its sand dunes that have provided opportunities for local tourism operators to launch horse and camel tours.
